The saga continues – as the Yellow Archers traverse the path of knowledge, they encountered a wonderful adventure in reading the CVC words. Slowly but surely, they are beginning to master phonetic sounds and starting to blend the right words.
They also met various types of animals, knew their body parts, and learned about the food they eat and where they live. They can also tell the difference between herbivores and carnivores! Some of them were able to bring home the school pet turtle, Gaudium and Fides.
They’ve also seen how a mongo grows from a seed into a sprout; discovered that some plants live on trees and learned the different parts of a plant. Indeed the Yellow Archers can’t be stopped from growing into something wonderful!

This second term, the Purple Archers enjoyed learning about Community Helpers where the toddlers got a feel of how to be a doctor, nurse, teacher, baker, dentist, fireman and policeman. We incorporated activities that taught them the significance of each of these jobs and they showed their interest in these different fields.
Our Celebration theme was equally joyful. We remembered several practices and traditions for each holiday celebration. All in all, it was a pleasant term for us. The toddlers are getting more and more comfortable with each other as it is evident with the way they are friends with one another. They still enjoy their usual activities like cutting, coloring, singing and dancing but more importantly, the kids showed eagerness for new learning too! Their eyes light up and their faces paint a big smile when they are given new tasks or introduced to new topics. Truly, each child is unique and they all shine in their own little ways. They are very special to us and we hope to encourage your child be in school everyday, growing with us, spreading their wings and discovering the world with us.

We learned so much in such a short time! The kids are more knowledgeable about living things around us. Many of them aspire to be scientists, while some vowed to save trees and animals when they grow up. Perhaps one day, we’ll see at least one of them joining Green Peace or similar advocacy groups. It is encouraging to hear them sharing what they know about plants and animals, as well as asking for more books to take home to read. They are really putting their library cards to good use.
We are also taking our reading skills to a higher level. The blue archers are learning more about blending consonants while the green archers are sharpening their comprehension skills. But what is more important is that they are also learning to ‘grow up’ inside. They are learning to become friends who care and share. They are also being more responsible than before. Seeing them ‘grow up’ within a few months time makes teaching a fulfilling job for me.

LALC joins the Million Hectare Walk
The Little Archers Learning Center participated in the Million Hectare Walk organized by the Haribon Foundation. The event, which happened last November 18, 2007, at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife, aims to raise 1million pesos to help reforest our denuded rainforests. The LALC family was able to raise Php 3,900 in both donations and pledges for the cause. Thanks to all the parents who gave donations!

Teacher Anina Weaves Stories
The Yellow Archers’ Teacher Anina Lagunday participated in a talk sponsored by the University of the Philippines’ College of Education last November 24 entitled “Weavers: Story-telling for Children.” The talk focused on the active role that a story-teller plays in engaging the children in the stories that they talk about. This role will ultimately lead to the children developing an active and evolving imagination and allow them to “weave stories about their own lives”
